Education and Reflection
All members of the Lafayette community are expected to participate in a Principles of Community Engagement module prior to beginning work in the community. These learning modules help participants understand how to engage responsibly and ethically with community organizations.
Reflection allows participants to connect their community engagement experiences with previous life experiences, observations, and academic knowledge. Reflection activities can deepen students’ understanding of themselves and the communities in which they live, learn, and work.
Reflection questions ask:
- Participants to think about the relationship between themselves, society, and the community-engaged project
- Participants to consider causes, symptoms, and impacts of the social question being addressed
